Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students:
 
Welcome to Putnam Middle School for the 2015-2016 school year!  I hope that you are having an enjoyable summer break.  As we prepare for the new school year, I want to share some important information with you.
 
Open House for Putnam Middle School is Monday, August 24, 2015, at 5:30 p.m. and will begin in our auditorium.  A copy of your child’s schedule will be mailed to you prior to Open House.  Please bring this to Open House.  You will have the opportunity to follow your child’s schedule and meet teachers on this evening.  Students are welcome and encouraged to attend.
 
There will be a Fall Sports Meeting for all students planning to participate in boys’ soccer, girls’ soccer, or cross country.  Parents/guardians of fall sports athletes need to attend this meeting with their child.  It will be held immediately following Open House on Monday, August 24, 2015.  This meeting will begin at 7:10 p.m. in our auditorium.
 
The first day of school is Wednesday, August 26, 2015.  School hours for the 2015-2016 school year are from 7:30 a.m. to 2:10 p.m.  Students should arrive to school no later than 7:25 a.m. so that they will be in homeroom on time before 7:30 a.m.  The earliest students should be dropped off is 7:15 a.m.  If you are picking your child up at the end of the school day, your child will exit the building after buses leave the parking lot.
 
Putnam Middle School will continue to provide breakfast to students each morning.  Students wanting breakfast will pick it up in the cafeteria after arriving to school and then bring it to homeroom.  This program continues to be at no cost to families.    
 
On the first day of school, your child will be provided a packet with the following documents:
  • Student Data Sheet (must be completed and returned to school)
  • Contact Information Sheet for electronic and automated information (must be completed and returned to school for electronic and automated announcements)
  • A letter concerning our breakfast and lunch programs, including the Free and Reduced Meals application
  • The 2015-2016 Putnam Middle School Academic Calendar
  • Putnam Middle School Dress Code
Each student will be assigned the use of a specific hall locker.  The lockers do not have locks on them.  Students are urged not to bring valuables to school as the security of the locker and anything found in it are the student’s responsibility.  Students wishing to use a lock must provide the lock combination or spare key to the main office.
 
I want all students in Putnam Middle School to have an engaging, productive, safe, successful, and fun middle school experience.  Our faculty is committed to challenging our students to become independent learners and responsible citizens while being responsive to their social and emotional needs.  The essential skills that students develop here at Putnam Middle School will help them meet with success in high school and in years to come.
