Grade 3 News
In math, we just wrapped up our chapter on double-digit addition with regrouping (up to 4 addends!). This week, we have started our money and time unit. Any opportunity for additional practice at home would be wonderful. In our reading curriculum, Wonders, we are finishing a unit titled “Live and Learn,” where students covered a variety of topics including weather, forces, and ways people help their communities. We will be starting the unit “Our Life, Our World” where students will once again explore different places and scientific topics. We have been focusing on government in Social Studies. Students have been learning about the 3 different levels of government as well as the 3 different branches of our government. Right now, we are concluding our SecondStep social-emotional learning program on emotion management and problem solving. The students have learned specific strategies aimed at emotion identification and self-regulation. Before the end of the month, we will start our science unit on natural processes such as weathering and erosion.
Second Step At Putnam Elementary School
Second Step is a program rooted in social-emotional learning (SEL) that helps transform schools into supportive, successful learning environments uniquely equipped to encourage children to thrive. More than just a classroom curriculum, Second Step’s holistic approach helps create a more empathetic society by providing education professionals, families, and the larger community with tools to enable them to take an active role in the social-emotional growth and safety of today’s children. For most lessons in class, there are Home Links designed to help you follow along with your child at home. Click on the link below for access to the grade-level Second Step Home Links.
