Curriculum Council

The Curriculum Council is an advisory committee comprised of staff representing all building levels in the district and is led by the Director of Curriculum and Instruction. This committee will report findings and make recommendations to members of the Board of Education Curriculum Sub-Committee. The primary goal of this committee is to ensure ongoing improvement of the district’s educational programs. Through its review of current instructional programs and implementation of best practice, the Council seeks to:
  • support the district's mission, vision, goals, and priorities
  • provide students with rigorous educational programs, supports and educational material which align to the Vision of the Putnam Learner\
  • provide students with instructional programs which will enable them to meet and exceed CT state standards, national standards, and other content area standards.

Responsibilities of the District Council Members

  • Review all materials being presented at the Council meeting.
  • Consider the implications of approving or eliminating PreK – 12 programs, materials and/or courses being presented at the committee meeting.
  • Be an active participant in the Council meeting.
  • Review and make a recommendation to the Board of Education Sub-Committee to approve/disapprove latest programs or courses that were discussed.
  • Communicate and share the work of the Council with building staff and administrators.

Operating Guidelines

Meeting Schedule: The Council typically holds 3-4 meetings per year, running for approximately one hour. Members should make every attempt to be present at each meeting.
Agendas/Minutes: Agendas and supporting documentation will be made available to the members of the Council prior to the meeting. Minutes of the meeting will be made available to the Council following the meeting.
Outcomes/Goals: The Council will make every attempt to reach consensus on whether to approve/disapprove new courses, programs and instructional materials.
